“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven–whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows. And I know that this man was caught up into paradise–whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows–and he heard things that cannot be told,
which man may not utter.” 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 (ESV)
“But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)
“Deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your waves have gone over me.” Psalm 42:7 (ESV)
There are depths of the oceans that the water pressure is too great for humans, or even most man-made vessels to go. The deepest location of the earth is the Mariana Trench located in the Pacific Ocean near Japan. It is 36,201 feet deep, and the pressure at the deepest part of the trench is over 8 tons per square inch. These are impossible conditions, and yet technological breakthroughs have allowed cameras to go to those depths and take video of the strange, alien-looking creatures that dwell there. New species have been discovered that had never been seen before. But it took the perseverance of a few, following their passion to reveal the ocean’s hidden mysteries, to find a way to go there.
Holy Spirit has depths of Heaven where He longs to take us. We cannot sit back and think that we have discovered all there is to our God, and be content with the thought that we are unable to go any deeper into His mysteries. For the hungry heart that longs for, seeks, and loves Him, He has prepared things that we have not yet experienced. He is calling us to deeper places. He is calling us out of complacency and fear, into deeper encounters in His Spirit.
There are levels of glory that He will show to those who are yielded, humble, and hungry – things that are beyond our imagination and comprehension. He longs to reveal mysteries to his children. There are places in the Spirit that He will take us when we pursue Him with our whole being.
“It is the glory of God to conceal a thing:
but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. The heaven for height, and the earth for depth,
and the heart of kings is unsearchable.” Proverbs 25:2-3 (KJV)
Father God, I pray today that I would listen intently to the deep cries of the Holy Spirit. I long to know the hidden mysteries, that can only be revealed as I yield my mind and spirit to the deepest longings of your heart. Put in me a relentless drive to know the fullness of You, Jesus. Lord, I dive into the ocean of your love today, and ask to be taken to places I have never before gone. Amen.
