“I have swept away your offenses like a cloud, your sins like the morning mist. Return to me, for I have redeemed you.” Isaiah 44:22 (NIV)
Do you feel like a dust magnet? Pigpen from the Snoopy comics felt that way. He was surrounded by a swirling cloud of dust, dirt and filth. Our cloud of dust and dirt is from our poor decisions and actions: sin. When we continue in this way of life, our sin grows, building like a dirty cloud around us. Removing this cloud is impossible without Jesus. But sometimes, when we walk with Jesus, it may seem that things are only stirring up more dust and dirt. This is because God is saying “It is time to allow the Holy Spirit to stir up the sin and clutter from your life, and deal with the issues”. We can trust that the Holy Spirit can and will do this for us.
Imagine this: a dirt cloud is mustered up that is so large you cannot see in front of your face. Then as you begin to trust, love, and keep His commandments, that cloud is stirred up even more. Ugly things you didn’t even know were hidden are being uncovered as the Holy Spirit comes and begins His cleansing process. Then, He opens the skies as you allow Him in, and in one instant the dirt is gone! And you are standing clean and fresh with the Holy Spirit by your side. When you breathe in the Holy Spirit and allow Him into every walk of your life, you are changed as He guides you.
In John 14:15-17 Jesus promised us that the Father will give us an advocate – the Holy Spirit that dwells within us. God will stir up the winds, and blow the dirt and sin of our lives into the clouds, with the burst and bustle of the Holy Spirit. The sin is taken away into the farthest reaches, to be remembered no more. This is done with one breath of the Holy Spirit when we ask and seek His guidance.
In Mark 13:26 it says, “At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory.” This is referring to the second coming of Christ in the end days. Oh what a glorious and wonderful thing! We will no longer see our cloud of sin, but we will see Jesus coming in the clouds of glory to raise us up!
Father God, I ask for the Holy Spirit to breathe in me today and blow away every cloud of sin in my life. Holy Spirit I want to know you: my Advocate, my Guide, my Breath of Life. I thank you Jesus for the promise that Holy Spirit will be with me and dwell in me. I ask for the grace to walk in the fullness of that promise today. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
